Services — Early Intervention

Early Intervention Parent/Caregiver Coaching

In-home and telehealth coaching for caregivers of children under 4 with communication delays — equipping families with evidence-based tools to support their child's development every day, not just during appointments.

What is early intervention?

Identifying needs early makes all the difference.

Early intervention (EI) is the process of providing services and supports to infants, toddlers, and their families when a child has, or is at risk for, a developmental delay, disability, or health condition that may affect typical development and learning. (ASHA)

A child's developmental needs can be best addressed when they are identified early and services can begin. Research consistently shows that early, targeted support leads to significantly better long-term outcomes for communication, learning, and social development.

Free services for California families: Early Intervention services through your local Regional Center are free through government funding for all children under 3 years of age in California, if a child meets eligibility criteria. Ask your pediatrician for more information about services in your area.

This service is appropriate for:

  • Families concerned about their child's communication development who choose to use insurance or pay out of pocket
  • Children up to four years of age
  • Children already diagnosed with a communication delay who would like additional support
  • Families seeking an assessment and treatment due to concerns about communication development

The coaching model

Empowering the people who matter most.

Parent/Caregiver Coaching teaches primary caregivers the "why" and "how" to use evidence-based language-building strategies during everyday activities and interactions with their child.

How sessions work

Your child must be present in sessions, but most of the time is a conversation between you and Lauren. Together you identify the strategy that will be most effective for your child's language development and easiest to embed into daily routines. Lauren explains the "why," demonstrates the "how," then guides you as you practice together during the session. Each session checks in on progress before adding to or refining your strategy.

"Think of it like building a home — we start with the strategy that becomes the foundation, then build from there."

Why this model works

Children spend far more time with their caregivers than in any therapy session. By equipping you with the right tools, this model ensures language-building happens continuously — during bath time, meals, play, and everyday moments — not just during scheduled appointments.

The Parent/Caregiver Coaching model is the gold standard for Early Intervention and is the model used by Regional Centers across California. It integrates directly into your family's natural environment so that strategies are easy to sustain long after therapy ends.

Feeding & tethered oral tissues

Is feeding therapy or tongue/lip-tie assessment part of this service?

If you have feeding concerns, Lauren will evaluate to determine whether difficulties with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, transitioning to solids, eating certain foods, or picky eating are related to a myofunctional disorder. If so, services will include:

  • Assessment for tongue and lip ties with appropriate referrals if a lip and tongue tie release (release) is recommended
  • Facilitating natural feeding, chewing, and swallowing movement patterns
  • Building a diverse, well-rounded diet
  • Establishing healthy jaw, face, and airway development
